PARALLEL MASTERCLASSES

1.Unleashing enterprising ideas in every classroom
With Nicole Dyson

We’ve all been in the classroom when brainstorming has been met with blank stairs and metaphorical tumbleweeds rolling through the aisles. Classroom creativity doesn’t happen by accident.

This practical and hands-on Masterclass explores the conditions and constraints to set every classroom up for creativity, before connecting this to Future Anything’s Entrepreneur’s Odyssey; a practical framework that supports the ‘how’ of delivering entrepreneurial education in every classroom.

2. Do the secondary gains of anxiety reduce student motivation to overcome it? With Dr Judith Locke and Dr Danielle Einstein

Anxiety is a debilitating disorder which impacts one’s enjoyment of life and reduces one’s potential. But amongst all the angst, there’s some secondary gains to having the condition, particularly for female students who might find age-appropriate challenges at school significantly reduced because of an anxiety diagnosis. Unless the sly benefits of anxiety are acknowledged and directly addressed, then a student may opt to continue to experience the disorder rather than do the hard work of overcoming it and living a full life.

In this masterclass, clinical psychologists, Dr Judith Locke and Dr Danielle Einstein, examine the secondary gains of anxiety for many school students (and, often, the people directly involved in their care). They will then suggest ways schools can deliberately move toward slowly removing those benefits and encourage and assist students to work at overcoming the disorder.

Join Dr Marcele de Sanctis, an organisational psychologist, and Dr Amanda Bell AM, Jenny Ethell. Liz Jones and Liam King, for creative insights on the topic.
