Grants and Opportunities
The Alliance offers a variety of grants, fellowships, awards and other opportunities to assist members in learning about, conducting and publishing research related to the education and wellbeing of girls. From the Global Action Research Collaborative which provides action research training to the Alliance Research Grant for high-quality research projects; from a Fellowship which aims to inspire new ideas and expand knowledge to an award recognising exceptional teaching, the Alliance provides an array of research and professional learning opportunities for all levels of teachers and professional staff employed by member schools.
Alliance Research Grant
The Alliance offers an annual grant of up to $15,000 (AUD) to assist academic or professional researchers, including educational consultants and teaching or professional staff of girls’ schools, to undertake research specifically relevant to the education or wellbeing of girls at single-sex schools in Australia and/or New Zealand. Applications for the 2024 Alliance Research Grant will open in February 2024.
Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia Fellowship
The Alliance offers an annual Fellowship of $10,000 (AUD) to support outstanding educators from member schools to investigate topics or issues related to girls’ education. The Fellowship aims to inspire new ideas, innovation and excellence in girls’ education and/or expand knowledge and expertise for the benefit of girls’ schools. The subject of proposed projects is limitless provided a benefit to girls’ education is evident and a willingness to share the knowledge gained with the Alliance is displayed including, but not limited to, writing a paper for the Alliance’s publication, In Alliance, and presenting at an Alliance conference. The Roslyn Otzen Award for Exceptional Teaching
Established in honour of an Alliance founder and former president, The Roslyn Otzen Award for Exceptional Teaching recognises outstanding women and men who have made a significant contribution to teaching in a girls’ school. The recipient will receive an award of $2000 (AUD) along with complimentary registration at an Alliance conference or event of the recipient’s choice, scheduled within 24 months of the award announcement.
The closing date for nominations for the 2023 Roslyn Otzen Award is 31 December 2023.
Global Action Research Collaborative
The Global Action Research Collaborative (GARC) on Girls’ Education is a collaboration between the Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia, National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (US) and other participating girls’ school organisations. Research Fellows complete an 18-month program of training and action research, culminating in Fellows presenting their research at an international conference and producing a final report for publication.
