Fintona Girls’ School is a Kindergarten to Year 12, non-denominational day school, based on Christian values. Our School caters for individual student needs through a broad-based education program, which provides for intellectual, social, physical, moral, ethical, spiritual and aesthetic development. Fintona holds fast to its motto Age Quod Agis – do what you do well. From its foundation in 1896, Fintona’s vision has been guided with foresight and determination to educate young women at the highest level, breaking down barriers to women’s full participation. Our ethos is based on ideals of inclusion and equality and aims to create a friendly, supportive, safe and caring environment. Our priority is for each student to develop a sense of self-worth, enthusiasm for learning, respect for others and optimism about the future. A strong sense of social justice underpins everything we do. Students are encouraged to use the benefits of education not only for personal advancement, but for the benefit of the community, society and the preservation of the planet and all living things. An emphasis is placed on co-operation through the House system and the School’s values are reflected throughout the curriculum and the life of the School. Fintona’s results consistently place it amongst the top performing schools in Victoria and are the culmination of the personal attention students receive in a small school. Our friendly, supportive and caring environment, together with our broad-based educational programs, provide our girls with many experiences to stretch themselves beyond expectation and to cope with life beyond school. Inspired by exceptional teachers, a Fintona girl will find the confidence to soar and achieve her highest academic and personal potential. Our beautiful school grounds include a mixture of historic buildings and modern facilities such as our Early Learning Centre, landscaped, eco-friendly gardens as well as specialist classrooms. Our state-of-the-art Maragaret Ross Cnetre provides our girls with further opportunties for moving into the future with confidence. The Junior School curriculum is based on the IB Primary Years Program and our Middle and Senior Schools provide a stimulating range of subjects including three languages, a varied elective program and a full complement of VCE subjects. Fintona’s academic results and university enrolments consistently place us amongst the top schools in Victoria, our NAPLAN results place us amongst the top schools in the country and students excel in a range of co- and extra-curricula activities such as the performing arts, public speaking, debating, Science Talent Search and Tournament of Minds. Year 9 students engage in our unique Connections program which encourages the Year 9s to be fully engaged with the broader community and the wider world through a series of planned activities which incude a community service component. The School also offers a range of trips – language based, outdoor education, environmental, social service and adventure. A commitment to pastoral care is central to the Fintona ethos and we seek to develop and maintain a community where staff, students and their families work together and are respected as individuals. Social justice is an active part of life at Fintona, engaging students in recognising the needs of others and what it means to be a ‘civil’ member of a community.
