Worawa Aboriginal College is a boarding school catering for Aboriginal girls in the middle years of schooling, Years 7 to 10. Worawa embraces a holistic approach which integrates education, culture and wellbeing and is based on the concept of “two way” learning. This involves the Teaching and Learning Program addressing the Key Learning Areas of mainstream curriculum whilst taking into account Aboriginal culture, values, spiritual beliefs and learning styles. The curriculum is presented in a way which respects and reinforces our students’ first culture while strongly emphasising foundation studies in Literacy and Numeracy. A breadth and depth of learning experiences across all key disciplines/learning areas introduces and connects to multiple pathways to further studies or the world of work. The College has a strong wellbeing support program which addresses the social and emotional wellbeing needs of students helping them to focus on their education. Particular importance is given to developing a sense of cultural identity as a basis for self-respect and participation in society.
