Stella Maris College, Manly, is an Independent Catholic girls’ secondary school established by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in a Benedictine tradition in 1931. The College achieves its mission by promoting the relevance of the Benedictine way of life by emphasising the importance of a balanced life and the pursuit of peace both personally and in the world. We emphasise a reverence for God’s creation and promote in our staff and students the necessity to have regard for the individual dignity of each person and our responsibility for stewardship of our environment. The importance of providing an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming atmosphere which promotes effective teaching and learning is emphasised. Stella Maris has a fine academic tradition where we find opportunities to promote personal growth, maximise learning opportunities and strive for continuous improvement. Our community recognises and respects the dignity, individuality and culture of each person, providing a learning environment which nurtures independent thinkers. Each student is encouraged to take responsibility for her learning in a positive environment which offers an education in faith and the freedom and responsibility to learn. Stella Maris provides a comprehensive education with a flexible and diverse curriculum honouring the diverse gifts of all by offering courses that cater for all levels of abilities, needs and interests. There are opportunities for the gifted and talented as well as support for those who need it. Students are encouraged to be involved in extra curricula activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, band, choir, debating, dance, drama, writers’ group and the variety of sporting opportunities. There are opportunities for retreats, outdoor education camps and overseas excursions and social justice immersion experiences for all year groups. The girls at Stella Maris are encouraged to participate in and contribute to their world. Social Justice initiatives are fostered to ensure that the students have an understanding and involvement in helping those less fortunate and that the wider community-both locally and globally is enriched by its association with the Stella Maris students. The parable of the Good Samaritan is our inspiration to always act with compassion and justice. We strive to develop in our students the values, skills, creativity, technological fluency and problem solving necessary for contributing to the world in the 21st century. The College is an integral part of the Manly community as an active contributor and a generous provider of services and facilities.
