St Patrick’s College is a Catholic and Independent Secondary Girls College with a proud tradition of excellence in the education of young women. Responsibility for the governance of the College rests with a Governance Board of Directors and by Mercy Partners, a canonical body which governs Mercy ministries in Queensland. Located on The Strand in Townsville, in stunning coastal surrounds, every endeavour is made to provide students, who are both boarders and day girls, with opportunities and encouragement to develop their faith and be more than they ever thought possible.
The College strives to set high academic standards, and the pastoral care system is designed to nurture girls to become women of independent spirit and compassion, within an environment that promotes innovative and creative learning. There is a major focus on STEM, the Arts and Technology.
At the heart of the school’s mission are the students. The College welcomes young women from all backgrounds; it aims to nurture grateful hearts generous in the service of others; to empower young women to become contributing and responsible citizens; and immerses them in different cultures and different worlds; while challenging them to become leaders of the future and to make a difference for the common good. Young women are encouraged to take an active role in community service through Mercy Girls in Action.
The College has a long history, with a Mercy presence on the site since 1878. In recent times there have been extensive building developments and significant upgrading and enhancement of facilities.
