Somerville House, established in 1899, is a day and boarding school for girls. The School is located on the edge of the Southbank precinct, adjacent to Brisbane city. The School is owned by the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA)and provides classes from Preparatory to Year 12, within three sub-schools – Junior (Years Prep to 6), Middle (Years 7 to 9), and Senior (Years 10 to 12). A co-educational Pre-Prep year will be introduced in Term 2, 2014. The School has a published Strategic Plan (Strategic Intent 2014) and a Master Plan (A 2020 Vision). These documents show that Somerville House is moving towards 2020 with major capital infrastructure, and goals for continued academic excellence, and cultural and sporting success. Somerville House educates girls within a Christian framework to pursue excellence in all fields of endeavour, and to fulfil the motto of Honour Before Honours. The core values celebrated within the School are compassion, care, integrity, respect and discipline. The spirit of service is promoted throughout the School and each student is provided opportunities to engage in: a balanced and broad education, academic excellence, intellectual inquiry and creativity, and new ways of learning in an ever-changing global society. Somerville House provides extensive academic, leadership, sporting, cultural and community engagement programs for students, as well as providing high standards in personal care and attention to individual student’s success.
