Mount Carmel College, founded by the Sisters of Charity, is a K to 10 school in the Catholic tradition where students are encouraged to develop their potential, live their faith, acquire a love of learning and contribute to society with confidence and integrity. Our learning environment allows individual students to be affirmed in developing their unique giftedness. Situated close to the city of Hobart, the primary and secondary schools are located on the same campus, providing for an integrated curriculum. Boys are enrolled to the end of Grade Two. Our strong commitment to the value of a single-sex education for girls from Grade Three to Year Ten is reflected in the teaching and learning programme. We also provide a stimulating and rich program of co-curricular activities where participation, team spirit and a sense of fair play are encouraged and affirmed. We espouse a culture of academic excellence and a desire to engage with enthusiasm in lifelong learning. Our aim is to provide pastorally for all members of our staff, student and parent communities, our Vision Statement proudly proclaiming that ‘We nurture, We challenge and We care’. Thus is fostered, in the words of Pope Benedict XVI, the “pastoral care of intelligence”. Our students are pro-actively involved in the wider community and we offer the opportunity to become involved in outreach activities. Our Religious Education programme also encourages an understanding in our students of their responsibility within creation and their obligations towards the natural world. In the spirit and charism of the Sisters of Charity, and centred in restorative practice, Mount Carmel exists not only to be different, but to make a difference. In a dynamic and developmental educational process, staff, parents and students work together to develop all students to their full potential and to give witness to the good news of Jesus Christ – through message, partnership and service.
