Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia and International Coalition of Girls’ Schools merger becomes effective

• The merger of AGSA and ICGS is now effective following the favourable vote by Alliance members at the 2023 AGM held on 22 March 2023.

• AGSA will change its name to the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools — Australasia

• The merger creates a global champion of size and scale, with a membership of over 550 girls’ schools

Following member approval to pursue a merger with ICGS at the 2022 AGM, Alliance members voted unanimously in favour of the merger at the 2023 AGM held on 22 March 2023.

The merger will unite the Alliance’s 185 member schools across Australia and New Zealand with ICGS’s membership. Bringing together over 550 girls’ schools across 19 countries representing over 350,000 students.

AGSA Executive Officer Loren Bridge said: “The merger creates a global champion for girls’ schools with a unique and diversified program portfolio able to deliver regional excellence and global engagement and connections for our schools.

“Additionally, the merger builds on the shared vision of our two organisations and our aspiration to elevate women’s leadership worldwide by empowering and educating girls to be ethical, globally minded changemakers,” Ms Bridge said.

ICGS Global Executive Director Megan Murphy said: “AGSA and ICGS are stronger together and will build unrivalled opportunities for girls’ schools around the world to connect, convene and collaborate.

“The merger creates an organisation with stronger programming and resources, and provides a platform to deliver greater value for members.

“We look forward to integrating our operations to create one high performing team – with a vision and capacity to make a real impact for girls’ schools,” Ms Murphy said.

During the transition period (23 March to 31 December 2023), two directors from Australasia member schools will join the ICGS Board, and a Regional Advisory Council will be established in Australasia. The ICGS—Australasia office and staffing will remain.
