For those who missed out in 2016, World Challenge in partnership with the Alliance are running two familiarisation tours in 2017. Both trips offer rare opportunities for professional development that will extend your understanding of a unique destination, learn about the challenges faced by people in the developing world, understand best practice in risk management and service-learning and network with like-minded colleagues.
Through the support of World Challenge, I joined a group of senior leaders from the Alliance on a ‘familiarisation’ trip to Cambodia. We set out to understand women’s issues and learn more about educational challenges and opportunities in Cambodia. We came back with a good dose of perspective, an understanding of the history of Cambodia, admiration for individuals who have devoted their energies to improving the lives of women and young people in very challenging circumstances, as well as appreciation for the preparation, care and ‘risk-management’ capability of World Challenge and our courageous group leaders, World Challenge’s General Manager, Mark Walters and Program Development Manager, Jodie Burton. Through this experience, we also got to know each other, and learnt so much about each other’s schools and leadership challenges. If there is another familiarisation experience of this nature, I encourage you to consider taking part.

Sri Lanka 7 to 14 April, 2017
Situated at the tip of the sub-continent Sri Lanka is an exotic mixture of Indian and Asian influences. This 8 day trip will take in the best that this amazing country has to offer such as the ancient cities of Dumballa and Sigiriya and the national parks at Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s highest town. Project visits will focus on rural schools as we examine the positive impact that our teams have had on improving teaching and learning conditions.
