Member BenefitsConference for Principals and Senior Staff – Member Discounts
The last biennial Alliance Conference was hosted in June 2012 by Melbourne Girls Grammar. The conference is always an excellent opportunity for networking with your colleagues as well as for hearing stimulating speakers on topics relevant to your role as an educator of girls in a girls’ school. You can find information about the speakers and the program on the Alliance website under Past Events. The next staff conference will be from 25 – 28 May 2014 at the Amora Hotel in Wellington, New Zealand; an exciting and innovative program is being planned. There are substantial group discounts for registrations on three or more form any one member school.
Student Leadership Conference
The Alliance organises a Student Leadership Conference which is held each January for student leaders from member schools. The conference provides a forum to explore leadership, prepare for the responsibility of their roles in their schools and network with like-minded students. In 2012 we welcomed students from across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and from our affiliates in the United States to Dunmore Lang College at Macquarie University in Sydney, the first time that the conference was not held in a school. This new move, as well as allowing us to accommodate all the students who wish to attend, will give the girls an insight into university life and add another dimension to the very successful leadership opportunities that the conference provides. We always receive much positive feedback from the girls and their parents about their ‘life-changing experience’. We have booked The Women’s College, Sydney University, for our 2013 Student Leadership Conference.
Our magazine, In Alliance, keeps members informed of the many outstanding programs and opportunities offered to students and staff in member schools, and features research articles related to girls’ education. Each member school receives three copies of each issue and more are available for a small fee upon request. Copies in pdf format can also be downloaded from the website to be forwarded to members of the school community.
Why a Girls’ School? Brochures
These colourful and informative tri-fold brochures are updated regularly and are useful for marketing your school to prospective parents. They are available for $15 for a bundle of 50 brochures plus a nominal postage and will be posted on request to member schools. The electronic version is also available for downloading to members on the website. We now are able to provide copies of this document, tailored with individual school’s images, in print-ready format for schools to organise their own personalised printed versions. More information about this is available on request.
The Alliance enjoys strong affiliation with similar organisations in the United States (NCGS) and the UK (GSA). Alliance member school staff enjoy membership rates for their conferences.
All the Alliance member schools are listed on the website and we welcome news from our schools to share with their colleagues. There is an opportunity for you to comment on each News item on the website.
We will link your school listing on our website to your employment advertisement on your website.
Members receive regular email newsletters about matters of interest relating to girls’ education.
Local Branch Activities
Each region organises regular meetings for member schools and their students.
Tours of speakers of interest are being arranged on a regular basis and member schools cooperate on sharing these speakers. Recent speakers are Dr Leonard Sax, author of Why Gender Matters and Girls on the Edge, Marie Wilson, founder of The White House Project which aims to help women gain leadership positions alongside men and Maggie Hamilton, author of What’s Happening to our Girls?
Current research is a high priority of the Alliance. A researcher is employed to prepare abstracts on current research related to girls’ education and her abstracts are a regular feature of our magazine and also appear on the Alliance website.
